“It was on the dark side of twilight when we got to Bistritz, which is a very interesting old place,” writes Bram Stoker in his world-famous Gothic novel Dracula. It was from Bistrița that the main protagonist started his journey to Dracula’s Castle and it is still a very much interesting old place. However no vampires involved, Bistrița is famous for its beautiful architectural mix of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque, multicultural heritage and picturesque Saxon villages nearby. The must-see here is the gorgeous Evangelical Church that dominates the spacious Central Square. For rich Jewish heritage check out the magnificent Bistrița Synagogue built in Ashkenazi style.
