Explore France

Stretching from the Leman Lake to the Chablais Mountain, the Val d’Abondance comprises the villages of Chevenoz, Vacheresse, Bonnevaux, Abondance, La Chapelle and Châtel. In 2003, the Abondance valley was declared a Pays d’Art et d’Histoire, an area of art and history. The eponymous, thousand-year-old village of Abondance sits in the Haute Savoie, just 10 kilometres from the Swiss border, and is known for its maison du fromage, as well as its abbey of Notre-Dame, founded in the 12th century, which earned the village a place on the European Route of Cistercian abbeys. The ski resort of Châtel, meanwhile, features chapels that fall under the Cultural Route of the Cluniac Sites in Europe.
