There is a town in central Lithuania that could have easily been named “Europe in miniature” for its rich heritage and peaceful coexistence of different nations. Six to be precise, for many years up until the 20th century and the outbreak of the Second World War the Lithuanians, Polish, Russians, Jews, Scottish and Germans lived together here each preserving their culture and contributing to the common one. First, the Second World War that has seen mass extermination of a thriving local Jewish community and the subsequent Soviet Union occupation has changed the modern outlook of Kėdainiai. Nevertheless, the city has seen a revival after the fall of the communist empire and now it’s a pretty historic city full of museums, various architectural styles and regular cultural happenings.
