The roots of the city of Roskilde go back over a thousand years, with it often still being referred to as a Viking city. Fittingly, then, one of its most famous attractions is the Viking Ship Museum, which features on the Viking Cultural Route. The city is also renowned for Roskilde Festival, a music festival that takes place each summer and has long been one of the largest in the country. Meanwhile, in the historic heart of Roskilde, Gothic red-brick buildings like the UNESCO-protected Roskilde Cathedral make for photogenic streets.
The only cultural route that currently stops in Roskilde is the Viking Cultural Route.
