A small town of Sighet located at the Ukrainian border has long been a place where multiple cultures blended together. The city core here still retains the medieval structure and many pretty old houses can be found among the picturesque streets. One of the main highlights of the town is the Sighet Village Museum, an amazing open-air space featuring village houses with the intact exteriors and interiors giving a glimpse into the historic rural way of life of the Maramures region. Also, Sighet is notable for the Jewish heritage as before the war it had a significant community. You can visit the Neo-Moorish Wijnitzer Klaus Synagogue, Elie Wiesel Memorial House devoted to the life of Nobel Piece Prize winner as well as the Old Jewish Cemetery.
