Dubbed the “Town of Victory”, Sisak is perhaps best known for its 16th-century fort, where the Battle of Sisak took place in 1593 leading to triumph over the Ottoman army. The town’s history goes back much further. Roman ruins abound near here, dating back to when Sisak was known by the name Siscia: the easiest to access are those at the Sisak City Museum and archaeological park. After dark, there’s a different side of Sisak to discover. The town has long been a hotspot for jazz performers. Those curious should catch a performance at Siscia Jazz Club or time a trip with the annual jazz and blues festival in June and July.
