Sremska Mitrovica is the largest city in the region of Srem and is well-known for its many cultural attractions. Among them are the Imperial Palace of Sirmium and the Basilica of St. Demetrius, built by Prefect Leontius. The Old Church of St. Stephen or the Small Church, were built on the banks of the Sava River. Another main attraction is the “Lazar Vozarevic” Gallery, which was created by one of the most famous Serbian painters of the second half of the 20th century. It is also worth to visit the old city lake, the Bridge of St. Irenaeus, and the Fruska Gora National Park with sixteen Orthodox monasteries, of inestimable historical and cultural value.
